One server here runs RAS with two dialin lines, and is about to be retired. When I attempt to enable RAS on an additional Windows 2000 box, I can't start it, getting the following error: ---- "Windows was unable to add this computer to the list of valid remote access servers in the Active Directory. Before you can use this computer as a remote access server, the domain administrator must complete this task." ---- We don't have an Active Directory. This is then followed by Windows attempting to start the RAS service, telling me ---- "The Remote Access and Routing service did not start because: The authentication server did not respond to authentication requests in a timely fashion." ---- Great. The full event log error states: Event Type: Error Event Source: RemoteAccess Event Category: None Event ID: 20153 Date: 6/03/2002 Time: 10:00:45 PM User: N/A Computer: PRINTERS Description: The currently configured accounting provider failed to load and initialize successfully. The authentication server did not respond to authentication requests in a timely fashion. For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp. Data: 0000: a2 03 00 00 ... I think this server thinks it's part of an ActiveDirectory domain that doesn't actually exist. Anyone have any pointers? -- Adam Smith IT Officer SAGE Automation Pty Ltd.
