Many people start with certification, which is good if you have the problem
solving and organizational skills to back it up.

Technical certification - roughly in order
A+ (Hardware)
Server+ (Just what it sounds like)
MCP (MS - 1 OS)
MCSA (MS Admin cert)
MCSE (Says you can design and implement AD)
CCNA (Cisco Router Admin - Associate level)
CCNP (Professional)
CCIE (Expert)

Time and Project Management, accounting, and other professional skills are
not to be forgotten.

Subject: Network Administrator/Engineer

Hello All,
I am a SQL Svr dba, who is administering my own NT server. However, I want
to gain additional knowledge in the Networking field. What areas of
knowledge should I master to become an network engineer. Thank You
