Yes, I just tried it by far it was faster. It still takes about 5 minutes or so to
replicate to other DC depending which one is the logonserver.

That explain it, so I want to reset password then go back into the account
and under the account tab - account option - check "user must change
password at next logon"

Would this be the correct procedure?

If you did this within the Users and Computers MMC and resetting the
password will override the user must change at next logon option

Did you check the box then reset the password?

Andrew,
        At 11:30 a.m., I changed a test account's password and put a check
box into the "user must change at next logon", around 11:45 AM, I logon on
to the test account with the newly changed password. It let me
authenticate to the domain. Log off, then log back for the next 1 hour
and no change password windows should up. Not until 1:15 pm did this
change password window should up.

Now if the active directory let me use the new password, then it should at
next logon prompt me to change my password. Would this be correct?

Is something wrong with my replication?

So, you are saying that you reset the account to use say "password" and then
select the "user must change password at next log on", but when this user
can log on with "password", but doesn't get a prompt for changing it? Can
s/he manually change it? Does this user have "password never expired" set?

Yes. I have done this to an account, it actually reset the password
but no change password prompt.

It says "at next logon". Are you saying that after they log off and then
log back on, they are not being prompted? Or are you expecting that while
they are in the computer doing stuff, and all of a sudden, a change password
box will pop up?

In our Windows 2000 Domain native mode with 4 domain controllers all at Sp2
with Windows 2000 Professional SP2, when going intop the Users and Computers
MMC, when we reset password option with the checkbox "User must change
password at next logon". The end user never gets prompted to change their
password.

According the the MS Docs, about Active Directory replication from
"Understanding Active Directory Replication" states "When a change is made
that needs to be replicated, the replication engine begins its job by
waiting for an interval when replication can occur, which is every 5 minutes
by default. When the interval arrives, the domain controller notifies its
first replication partner. Then, all other partners are notified in a delay
manner that you can configure, with the default being 30 seconds. So, in a
typical site using the defaults, the propagation of the change to all domain
controllers is 15 minutes or less."

How would I go about troubleshooting this?
