If you don't mind using some flavor of Linux (I use RedHat 7.2), Netsaint
(www.netsaint.org) works great for us. I have it running on an old Dell GX1
and it just hums right along. It can be configured to check just about
anything (ping, tcp ports, nt services, etc.). And, it's FREE!
