Try booting to safe mode and look under network adapters in device manager. By booting to safe mode you can see devices that have drivers installed but may not actually be in the machine anymore.

As long as the 3Com Virtual NIC - DynamicAccess 1.5 adapter is loaded for the Linksys adapter, I get the windows protection error. I'd like to completely remove this, but as the user is not technical, I cannot be sure that it isn't needed for something. Can anyone tell me what this driver is and why it would be loaded? A quick search of 3Com and DynamicAccess lead me to believe it might be some type of server based imaging solution, but I have no ideas... (Fortunately there is a remove DirectAccess v1.5 in add/remove programs, I just need to know what this is used for to be sure that I will not break something I am not familiar with that they might be using...)
