Try booting to safe mode and look under network adapters in device manager.
By booting to safe mode you can see devices that have drivers installed but
may not actually be in the machine anymore.

Subject: 3Com DynamicAccess ???

I am working on a PC (Win98) for a friend (and we all know that we shouldn't
be doing that!!! :) and ran across something I have not seen before...

Since the machine had no NIC, I added a Linksys 10/100 adapter so that DSL
Service could be used and then started getting Windows Protection Errors...
I booted into safe mode and saw that
        1) The machine had another network driver loading for a HP Card
                (Must have been previously removed)
        2) Each network adapter (HP & Linksys) also had another entry:
                3Com Virtual NIC - DynamicAccess 1.5 ()
where each adapter appeared in parens.

As long as the 3Com Virtual NIC - DynamicAccess 1.5 adapter is loaded for
the Linksys adapter, I get the windows protection error. I'd like to
completely remove this, but as the user is not technical, I cannot be sure
that it isn't needed for something.

Can anyone tell me what this driver is and why it would be loaded? A quick
search of 3Com and DynamicAccess lead me to believe it might be some type of
server based imaging solution, but I have no ideas... (Fortunately there is
a remove DirectAccess v1.5 in add/remove programs, I just need to know what
this is used for to be sure that I will not break something I am not
familiar with that they might be
using...)

Thanks

-Tim
