I would start by checking the 1c record for your domain in WINS, make sure
the PDC and BDC's are listed. Also might want to check to make sure you have
a "valid" master browser for that subnet. I have seen this a few times when
a Samba machine was elected as the master browser. Browstat from the reskit
will help you identify your master browser. These are just a few things to
check.

Subject: Anyone seen this problem before?

Hello, I am wondering if anyone seen this problem before. I have 3 NT 4.0
SP6a clients can not log into my NT 4.0 domain anymore. All 3 of them are
from same subnet and seems like it started since I replaced BDC on their
subnet with newer machine. I used the different name for their BDC when I
replaced the machine.

These are error messages I got from their Event Viewer

Event ID: 3932
Domain_Name is not a valid domain or workgroup name.
Event ID: 7001
The description for Event ID [7001] in source [Service Control manager] can
not be found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry

information or message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer.
The following information is part of the event: Messages, Workstation, The
Workgroup or domain name is already in use by another computer on the
network. Event ID: 7001 The description for Event ID [7001] in source
[Service Control manager] can not be found. The local computer may not have
the necessary registry

information or message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer.
The following information is part of the event: TCP/IP NetBIOS Helper, the
dependency service or group failed to start. Event ID: 7002 Event ID:
7023...

I have reinstalled SP6a, completely uninstalled network and reinstalled the
network but error messages are still there. If I unjoin from the domain and
join the workgroup called workgroup, error message stops, but error messages
starts if I rejoin the domain. Anyone ever seen this problem before??

Thanks.
Myung
