Just in the last day since your first message, I've found another couple of machines
that had difficulty connecting to MS' new updater service. I've been able to get it
done, but sometimes I've had to refresh the screen a couple of times, and/or restart
IE.

Blessed thing used to work pretty well, I fear now MS has bleeped it up.

Good suggestion--but it didn't work. We are running Norton AV and this
server did have it installed. I even went one step further and
uninstall Norton AV and disabled all non-essential services just to make
sure it wasn't something else blocking the download.

Your message gave me hope but, alas, its still the same.

I had one of my machines just yesterday that was running a local version
of Norton AV that wouldn't allow Windows Update to download a file.
Once I disabled Norton, had no problem. You might check whether there's
some AV program running.

The new version of Windows Update for Windows 2000 works great of all of
my 100-some PCs: laptops, desktop, and servers running Windows 2000
Professional and Windows 2000 server.

However, I have one server (Windows 2000 Server SP2) that scans fine and
lets you select the updates to install but fails to even download one
byte of data after clicking past all of the legal agreements.

In other words, I can get to the Windows update site. The first scan
installed the updated Microsoft components for the next scanner. The
system completes the scan and shows updates in each category (critical,
non-critical, and drivers), let's you select any or all of the
components to be added to the download. It lets you confirm your
selections, asks you to agree to various legal agreements, and then
presents you with the download window with the two bars indicating the
current file and the total progress. Both remain at 0 even if you wait
overnight.

I've even tried installing each item one by one to see if there was a
single item that was holding everything up. No luck.

Any ideas? Everything else seems to work on this server, including
Internet and intranet access, file downloading from FTP and WWW sites,
etc.

I'm at a loss so any help would be appreciated.
