Anthony,

There's a lot of things that need to be considered when deciding how to
tackle the MS Licensing changes (I'm actually surprised we haven't seen more
discussion on this list about it)... You need to sit down, analyze your
past upgrade cycle and decide how you want to handle things going forward...
Basically, if you want to "keep current" without spending money on brand new
licenses every two years than you want to enroll in MS's new Software
Assurance... If you've got the volume to qualify for an Open Volume or
Select agreement (and you're comfortable with your LAR/VAR) then the
agreement is going to save you a fair amount of money going in.... We
decided to sign a Select agreement and did save ourselves a fair amount of
money... ("Save" being relative of course, because we never would've spent
that much at once if MS didn't change their licensing policies......)

At this point, you're going to be facing a time crunch getting this all
decided... All the LARs / VARs I talked to are requesting that Open Volume
and Select agreements be inked by the end of this week, or the end of next
week at the very latest to make sure the paperwork gets through MS by the
end of the month (to be on the safe side)...

sound they make as they fly by."

It's been much cheaper for us, even with the licensing 6.0 increases. You'll
have to just crunch the numbers on a spreadsheet though...

I am reviewing the ROI of signing on with MS Volume subscription based
licensing ploy. Anyone have comments about this? What are your companies
doing to combat this, being the deadline is July 31st.
