You are correct. If you deploy it with the ghost image, you will not have
any sort of resiliency with office. Depending on the size of your
organization, deploying Office via gpo is definitely a possiblity. I have
done this before in a test lab environment - took all of about 5-7 minutes
to deploy the entire office suite (full install) via GPO. I will tell you
that you will need a lot of work if you want to try and deploy acrobat
reader via GPO - they do not provide an .msi, and it is a major pain in the
butt to try and create one. That one you may want to include in your ghost
image. But as far as office goes, I would recommend assigning the app to
the computer (so it is available to all users who log into the workstation).
Just make sure you follow the proper steps for adding in the package in
group policy - you will need to create an administrative install of office
on a share on the network. Again, to be mentioned is the size of your
company, and whether you have multiple locations to worry about. Our
microsoft rep had advised against deploying office via gpo in our company
due to size and multiple locations. He had indicated there is a hard limit
in terms of group policy processing somewhere in the vicinity of a couple
thousand users/computers.

Subject: Standard Application Deployment

Hello,

When building a default build for my corporate workstations.... should I
install the default applications, i.e. Office, Notes, Acrobat, etc on the
ghost image, or should I deploy these via .msi and GPO after the ghost image
has been deployed?

I am looking along the perspective that if Office/any default applications
became corrupt - they wouldn't be healed if they were on the default ghost
image ?

Thanks in advance all,

Rob
