Yah, well that situation gets REAL messy when you have a university or
college like ours. We have a Class B address with DHCP going out to all
the dorms, as well as our wireless campus network. It's really hard to
tell who's on what IP at any given time. Viruses like Klez and Nimda
are rampant with students that do not use campus based e-mail as their
primary e-mail address. We still do not have a good solution on how to
protect our students from the outside world, and form each other as
well.

All instances of Klez I have come across, it has been apparent in the
email
header what server was actually delivering the mail

In each case I've emailed the admin at those domains, and they've
confirmed
back to me that they did have an infected machine

This virus spoofs the sender it is most likely not actually coming from
him.

Hi there... I had a user infected with the KLEZ worm.... And I have
since
rebuilt his machine.... (format, and reload), yet scan mail has picked
up an
instance of his machine apparently sending an email with this.... Is
there
something else I should have done to repair the machine? It is running
AV
with all the latest patches....

Ideas?

   Dustin
