  For an Active Directory-based private network, I would recommend using the
Microsoft DNS server.  Like many software companies, Microsoft tends to
assume you use their software for everything, and this cuts down on support
headaches.  And the AD-integration is nice.

  For a public DNS server (authoritative or caching-resolver), you might
want to check out ISC BIND.  It is the reference implementation of the
Domain protocol, and tends to have less compatibility headaches than MS-DNS.
