If I could right click in the services applet, and select "New" or "Create", I would have done just that. Unfortunately, it's not an option. AutoExNt does basically that.
Subst works very well with all the OS's I've used so far. My main issue was one of convenience. My desktop is often the easiest place to work. W2K makes it's path unreasonably long. With Subst I can keep all my personal stuff (Docs,Desktop,etc.) in z:\myDocs,z:\myDesktop,z:\myEtc. AutoExNt just eliminated an annoying error message at startup. I'm affraid if it's a choice between properness and functionality. I tend to go with what works best.
