AWC AdminTool can convert SID <-> User in an easy way. The short SIDs are predefned SIDs which are always created in Windows NT/2000/XP.

In the winlogon.log file, some issues with user rights are noted (error 1332 - no mapping between account names and security Ids). A couple of questions: 1. What's the easiest way to match a known SID with a user or group? 2. Why are some SIDs short (S-1-5-32-545) and some long (S-1-5-21-1306691395-1184305....etc.) Browsed my books & technet, no help yet.
