Thank you very much! Deceptively simple after reading your explanation.
It's working like a charm now.

Is it a virtual directory below the secured web site?

The way it works is you secure the server a virtual directory below it
can
either require encryption or not. Depends if you want it to.

Example

www.securesite.com this would be your ssl cert. You register it for
this
site and IP address. Then you can determine if you want the virtuals
below
it to be secure or not.

www.securestie.com/virtualdirectory would be secured if you check
require
encryption.

www.securesite.com/nonsecuredirectory would not be secured if you
uncheck
require encryption.

Hope that helps.

Subject: How to install ssl for a virtual directory in iis5

Hello,

I've got a win2000 server running a sinlge (default) website with a
handfull of virtual directories below it. I need to have one of my
virtual directories use an ssl cert I have installed on the server.
Problem is, the security area in my virtual directory folder
properties
is greyed out. I can't specify the cert for the folder. If I install
the
cert at the top level it affects all of my virtual directories and if
I
setup a new website it binds to the same ip as the main and takes
over.

Can anyone help an iis newbie straighten this out?

Thank you and happy holidiays!
