There really is no debate. DLT has now become redundant technology.

It is extremely fast. We have an external Seagate Viper 200S, and it
runs like a dream. The LTO cartridges are extremely robust, and can
operate in any temperates from 10C to 45C, and even up to 80%
humidity! So in other words, you can take them absolutely anywhere.

LTO technology was a joint operation between IBM, HP and Seagate, and
because of this, certain standards for the technology were put in place
that meant the cartridge and drive specifications were exactly the same
across the board. What does that mean for us? It means we can take a
HP cartridge or a Sony cartridge or a IBM cartridge or a Seagate
cartridge or another-brand cartridge and put them in any LTO backup
drive and they will work. You can't do that with DLT.

As for the life-cycle, by the time the 400Gb tapes come along, my drive
will still accept them. That's what's so fantastic!

LOL As you can tell I am very fond of our LTO Backup system, and I used
to despise backups. They were the bane of my career. Now they're an
accepted regular every-day part of it :)

Scrap them immediately!
