Hello all, I know it may be a bit off Topic, but I figured I'd give it a shot... I am running WinXP pro, and as the local administrator, I log in... Then I Browse through Program Files...etc.. Eventually browsing to the executable in the application I am trying to get to launch.
I follow M$ directions for HOW TO: Use the RUN AS Command to Start a Program as an Administrator in Windows XP (kb #305780). I made sure the Secondary logon service is running, I then Right Clicking on the Applications module and choose Run As.. Click on the bullet for: The Following User, give it that machines Admin user name and password and click OK. Then just to check / verify the settings I right click on it again and choose Run As.. It automatically goes back to: Current user: (machine_name)\Administrator) along with the check mark next to Protect my computer and data from unauthorized program activity. Now I've tried this every which way, even unselecting the Protect my computer and data from unauthorized activity and every time I exit it changes right back to Current User and Protect my computer. Now, First off this program runs a USB device and that USB device hasn't been XP certified, however the program functions beautifully if run using an administrator account. I'm not sure exactly what the issue is with this not saving the Run As, UserName & Pass. However even if I log out/restart and when I log in using either a user from either the Local Users or Local Power Users group the service still is running under the current user? My main goal is to get this Device / Application to be launched with the "Run As"... Administrator account. I do understand that the Power Users group may not be able to run Legacy Applications, and that the Administrator group is the main group that will run the legacy applications (which apparently this must be / unless it's driver related?). This application is not a service, which would have been nice so I could set it to auto-start with a specific account. Has anybody else battled with this.... Suggestions, Comments would be greatly appreciated.
