I have a perl script that does this... runs as a service (using
Win32::Daemon)... in my case it listens on a port and then a central
machine connects to that port and checks the following:

CPU Load (all of the CPUs on the machine)
diskfree (all of the disks on the machine)
smtp_queue (this is for my exchange servers)

If you are interested in the script, let me know and I'll send it to
you.
