Has this been a problem since day 1? Does it happen to 100% of your users?
Are they saving using UNC or mapped drives? What are Word's settings for
file locations?

We had an issue similar to this and found our Trend (antivirus) clients were
outdated on a few of our machines.

Subject: Strange Word 2000 Problem

Hi All,
I have a strange problem here.
We are a complete Win 2K environment. Active Directory, Win 2K Servers =
and
Prof Workstaions with Office 2K.
Users are saving a lot of word and excel docs on the file and print =
server.
The problem is with Word only, when users open doc files on the server, =
it
is fine... but when they want to save or even close without saving... it
takes ages....
Everything works fine with the word docs on the local hard disks..... =
and no
problems at all with excel files.. either on the server or on local hard
drives.
The worst part is that.. there is no event log generated either on the
workstations or on the server... nothing at all...
I searched the entire knowledge base and found articles that say it =
might be
happening due to the journaling option being turned on in Outlook.
Strangely we do not have any journaling option turned on anywhere on any =
of
the machines..
Please throw some light on this issue.

Regards
