ip addresses - DHCP? gateway? Thank you,
Robert Saylors Technical Services Manager FoxBerry Incorporated -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Behalf Of Lum, David Sent: Wednesday, March 26, 2003 4:16 PM To: NT 2000 Discussions Subject: [OT] Billing IT customers Scenario: Two locations about 1 mi apart. Site 1 has cable modem Internet access and Linksys "firewall"/router and everything worked fine (using ICS) - installing the firewall was plug and play. Site 2 gets the same service, so Site 1 gets upgraded to a Sonicwall firewall (again no installation issues) and Site 2 gets the Linksys. Site 2 cannot connect to the Internet. Differences/notes/etc. Site 2 is not using ICS. The Linksys is a firewall/5-port switch combo (http://www.linksys.com/products/product.asp?grid=34&scid=29&prid=433) If I bypass the firewall (go from the cable modem to the switch) they can get to the Internet. Going through the firewall (cable modem ---> WAN port on Linksys) I got almost nothing (long story). My solution is to move them to an RFC 1918 IP range (192.168.x.x) as they are currently on 192.10.x.x which isn't theirs anyway. My question is I have a ton of time into this, a fair amount just due to me not being a DNS - TCP/IP expert <ducking the vegetables being thrown>. I normally charge by the hour but don't feel right charging them even half of the time spent on this. How does one determine what should be charged due to an unusual (or rather, different than Site 1) setup and not charged due to "lack of excellence" on my part? Seat of the pants?
