  Samba is capable of using the "host" for name resolution, which on Unix,
at least, results in DNS getting queried.  I don't know how that would work
on an AS/400.

  Samba still uses the SMB-over-NetBIOS-over-IP kludge that LAN Manager
inflicted on us.  I don't think it supports the newer direct SMB-over-IP
that was introduced with Windows 2000.  Yet.

  Samba 2.x can join an NT-style domain as a full domain member (complete
with machine trust account).

  Samba 3.0, in early testing now, is supposed to be able to join an AD
domain using Kerberos and LDAP.
