I just want to thank everyone for their help/suggestions. I don't know what I did, but:
1. I uninstalled PC-cillon and installed Symantec AntiVirus. After scanning the entire hard drive no viruses were detected. 2. Installed PestPatrol and scanned entire hard drive. It only found a registry IE extension entry for the Alexa toolbar. I deleted the entry. 3. Installed Ad-aware and scanned entire hard drive. No abnormalities found. 4. Deleted every cookie, history entry, temporary IE file I could find on the hard drive (All profiles). Deleted all profiles no longer in use. 5. Rebooted my machine. So far, so good. Maybe it was resident in memory. I did find tons of files in the C:\Recycled folder that did not show up when viewing the Recycle Bin thru Windows Explorer. I used a DOS list directory command called "List". It showed me all kinds of hidden directories/files that you normally wouldn't see when viewing the "Recycle Bin". I deleted all of these. You really need to run a program like Ad Aware to detect them. Last case scenario is to wipe machine clean and start from scratch. -----Original Message----- From: Gregory J Toland [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Tuesday, June 03, 2003 9:41 PM To: NT 2000 Discussions Subject: RE: Off Topic: Good Virus Email List Hah, hah! Very funny. Already tried that. I will look at the Task Manager and see what I can find. Thanks for the suggestion. Gregory J Toland Sr. Systems Architect XWare Systems Inc. Try deleting all temp internet files/history/cache. I had the same sort of problem once (I wasn't redirected to p0rn sites though) and deleting everything seemed to fix it for whatever reason. -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Tuesday, June 03, 2003 5:31 PM To: NT 2000 Discussions Subject: RE: Off Topic: Good Virus Email List The others are right. You either have a virus or some serious spyware. Look in task manager and very carefully examine any unknown applications that are running. I've had several users who were in the same situation, you can find it. Not good when you are giving a presentation of a web application before a group of people. It hasn't happened to me yet, but chances are it will if I don't fix this thing. I am looking for an appropriate list to direct my question. I am looking for a good email list for posting virus questions. I think I have some type of virus on my machine. Frequently, when visiting sites (through links I click in Outlook/IE or just typing the URL directly in the address box) I am directed to various porn sites or I may get a 404 Page not Found error. Has anyone seen this before? Or could you direct me to a good email list for posting such virus questions. Any help would be much appreciated. Gregory J.
