It's a SCSI drive.

I have seen this.  What sort of a IDE cable are you using for this
drive?

If you have a newer machine you should be using an IDE cable with really
small wires.  The older IDE cables cause problems with the new IDE
controllers. The controllers have to figure out what speed to talk to
the drives with across these new cables and there is a pause while until
they show up.

Normally if you go to a command prompt and type c: you will hear the
drive spin up and it will be visible.
