I am at wits ends here - wish someone had a program that cures all boot problems. Grr.
IBM Thinkpad with that annoying service partition they use running XP Pro. Ghosted drive to image, then image to new drive - same size, model etc. Now at reboot error says A disk read error occurred Press ctrl-alt-del to restart All the data is there, I can boot into sysinternals ERD and see all, chkdsk /r etc. Booted from the XP 6 floppies (MS bug on CD does not get you passed console admin password login) to run fixboot. Nothing. Tried again then fixmbr. Nothing. Ntldr & ntdetect are there. No errors on disk. I even went thru XP install past the F8 agreement and R for repair...is copies system files over. Nothing. Before I call IBM, does anyone have a clue why all appear there, fixboot, fixmbr, chkdsk are doing nothing, XP repairs are doing nothing. After 8 hrs of messing with this, my only hope is to install XP over this, keeping the data but having to reinstall ALL programs for the client. PITA. HELP!!!
