System font corruption... I see this about every 4 or 5 months or so.

Tried system file checker?

You have another machine like it right..? :-)

SAFE MODE
Copy the fonts from a good machine to CD (or local folder) CD is good for future reference.
Delete the fonts in the fonts folder.
Open the font control panel and File install new fonts, Browse to the CD or folder and select all ( Make sure to copy to system -- little checkbox)
When done, reboot back into safe mode and check event log for errors after boot. If all is well, open wordpad and try some fonts to make sure the basics look well.

Reboot into normal mode.

Sometimes I get a msg about this font is in use. Then I boot to command prompt and manually copy to winnt/fonts

If that fails, then I rebuild. After I rebuild, I do a NTbackup w/ system state and thenstore it on a server incase I ever need it. (poor mans ((manual))ghost :-)

Greetings,
I have come across something that really just doesn't make sense. I am
one step short of rebuilding the system.

I have a user who swears they have made no changes, just the updates
that I applied, but most of the text on his system has been replaced
with the WingDings font. We are talking things like the warning message
that appears before the Ctrl-Alt-Del login screen, the text on the
Display properties interface. Not all fonts, just some.

His OS is Windows XP SP1, and is using a NVidia video card. I have
tried installing /re-installing video drivers, I have uninstalled most
of his extra apps. It just doesn't make sense.

Does anybody have a thought?
