Windows 2000 server

Our print server crashed but and recovery was done with repair disks. For about 24
hours, we got no calls about printing issues.

Then, one department reported that they were getting either blank pages or pages with
only lines on them. The printer was a Laserjet 5. By installing the printer as a
local printer (using a tcp/ip port), the issue went away.

24 hours after that, the s* storm hit. ER reported printing blank pages, MI reported
same. We tried changing the driver to 5/M but then this crashed Word (XP).

Finally, we set up anybody printing or using a LJ 5 or LJ5 driver to print locally
until we could clear up the problem.

Anyway, this really has us stumped. Here are some highlights/notes:

1.Only HP laserjet 5 printers had this issue. Lexmarks or other HP's were fine.
2.The print server was back online and no printer issues were reported the first day
we brought it back up. It seemed to take 24-48 hours for the problems to appear.
(BTW, this is a hospital so printing, especially in ER, is going on constantly.) That
really bothers me; you'd think the problem would appear almost immediately.
3. Our HR department, though, can print to their LJ5 even though they are doing it as
a network printer, not a local.

Anybody out there got any ideas?
