I didn't mention that my LVM volumes are thin volumes.  They use a
shared storage pool, with other thin volumes, and when an area is
trimmed, the areas are released back to the storage pool.

As a test, I got "fstrim" to work eliminating LVM, just using it on a
raw partition with NTFS.

I think this means ntfs-3g isn't recognizing its underlying device
(LVM thin) supports trim/discard.

Again, when btrfs receives a "fstrim" request, and is also on a thin
LVM volume, it is able to detect it can send a trim/discard to it.
