hm, it would be --jobname then, to remain compatible with whatever tex that 
does not support it; actually, you can nio say:

--passon="--job-name=bigfoot"

and achieve similar results

i would not, but since fabrice always kindly puts recent pdftex's in a 
separate zip, updating is easy,
