Of course the math module still exists, but it fails to work with the newer releases of context (this is because there have been major changes in context lately and the math module is very low level: it broke down quite seriously). Of course there are plans to re-instate math support, but I suspect that the math module 'as such' will vanish. For instance, most of the glyph support macros (eg. for the AMS fonts) have already moved to the core in the 'symbols' section, and the MathML driver takes care of some problematic math constructs. The typescripts solve the \boldmath problem etc. etc. Time frame: hard to say. Currently, I am not working on the math module, nor on the bib module. Professionally, I am worrying about XML namespaces and Formatting Objects (these are not related to math support except for some symbols) and in my free time there are some completely different things like Omega ...
