Oh, I wouldn't say that there wasn't enough docu! But for complex layout you must collect it from different manuals, and you must have some fantasy to figure out, how to "abuse" some features. Ok, there are quite some undocumented features. (Don't know if everything is in the beta, what Hans uses...) And it's no fault to speak MetaPost fluently... (That's a gap in my knowledge.)
