this column mechanism really tries hard to balance columns;

it may help if your turn on grid snapping

also, there are columnsets to play with ...

\definecolumnset[two][n=2]

\startcolumnset[two]

\placefigure [btrl] {} {\framed[height=3cm,width=4cm]{guess what}}

\stopcolumnset
