Good news, it seem to work after updating to 1.11 ( This is pdfTeXk, Version 3.141592-1.11a (Web2C 7.5.2))
I get 797,077 test.pdf 1,078,539 test1.pdf and your test was 805,366 test.pdf 1,053,739 test1.pdf (Does it depend from pdftex version ?)
