I put in my ordinary mp files:- --------------- input metafun ; verbatimtex ..any required preliminary ConTeXt statements \setupbodyfont etc. \starttext etex
.. normal metapost
verbatimtex \stoptext etex end --------------- The assembly script needs a line like export TEX=texexec in it
Then the remnants of latex are removed and the btex .. etex bits are typeset using ConTeXt.

If one looks carefully, one sees that a $ is missing. (I didn't looked carefully, but added a verbatimtex \bye etex TeX gave the right hint.) After inserting the $, it worked without a problem. But I'm still puzzled that there was a \end{document}, where did it come from?
