Every other connection that's not from bottom to bottom does work.

in mp-char.mp you should patch:
   %%%% begin experiment
    xypoints[3] := xypoints[3] shifted (dsp_x,0) ;
    xypoints[4] := xypoints[4] shifted (dsp_x,0) ;
