it seems I have a problem with OS / version / plugin or whatever dependencies. While I there is nothing visible where the movie should appear using Acrobat Reader 5.08 (Solaris), everything works well using the same pdf file and Acrobat Reader 6.02 (Windows 2000).
Unix/Linux AR versions have not support movie/sound annotations yet. Nothing seems to change :-((
