Thanks. I had never grappled with the corner option in \framed before: corner = framecorner + backgroundcorner

there was a time that i was rather glad that i could program such things and achieve such effects ... of course it was long before i started playing with metapost; technically it is possible to hook all kind of things into frameds background handler
