\averagecharwidth gives incorrect values when compact fonts are enabled.
Sample document:
\startTEXpage
\dowith{,\tfa,\tfb,\tfc,\tfd}{#1\the\averagecharwidth\ }
\stopTEXpage
When compiled with the default settings (compact fonts enabled), I get
the same values for each size, which is incorrect:
4.63582pt 4.63582pt 4.63582pt 4.63582pt 4.63582pt
When compiled with "--nocompactfonts", I get the expected values:
5.56299pt 6.68124pt 8.01183pt 9.61844pt 11.54353pt
