I have an older set of documents from 2021 and during the process
of reworking using a current context version I noticed the
incorrect float numbering. I suppose it has worked at some point
in 2021, but I don't have an old context version any more to
check.

After having clicked “send” it dawned on me that the document was
using MkIV. So low and behold, processing the example with a current
MkIV results in subfloatnumbering working as designed. So apparently
LMTX has an issue here.

%% works with MkIV
version: 2025.12.05 17:46

%% fails with LMTX
version: 2025.12.05 17:46

in strc-num.mkxl can you change

   \xdef\currentstructurecomponentlevel {#2\s!haslevel}%

into

   \xdef\currentstructurecomponentlevel {#2\s!level}%

remake the format and try again
