Hi all,

[[ Hraban is not the only one with yet more questions... ]]

(While trying to come to grips with the Zen of \testpage, I've been diverted
into contemplating various spacing parameters...)

With this small example document:

%%%%
\setupbodyfont[10pt]
\starttext

The baselineskip is \the\baselineskip

The smallskipamount is \the\smallskipamount

\stoptext
%%%

I get the output:

The baselineskip is 12.06137pt
The smallskipamount is 2.2615pt plus 0.75383pt minus 0.75383pt

In .../tex/texmf-context/tex/context/base/mkxl/syst-ini.mkxl I see

   \newgluespec \smallskipamount \smallskipamount = 3pt plus 1pt minus 1pt

so initially, I might have expected \smallskipamount to be
        3pt plus 1pt minus 1pt
but I also see in .../tex/texmf-context/tex/context/base/mkxl/spac-def.mkxl
        \synchronizeskipamounts
is added to \everybodyfont, and in .../spac-ver.mkxl we have
   \permanent\protected\def\synchronizeskipamounts
      {\bigskipamount
                 \skipfactor\baselineskip
         \s!plus\skipgluefactor\baselineskip
         \s!minus\skipgluefactor\baselineskip
       \relax
       \medskipamount \bigskipamount \divideby\medskipamount \plustwo
       \smallskipamount\bigskipamount \divideby\smallskipamount\plusfour}

and so I am a bit confused.

(1) Why is \smallskipamount set to the same as plain TeX in syst-init.mkxl
when it is just going to be reset to be 1/4 of the *adjusted*
    \baselineskip ?

(2) Why is \skipfactor 0.75?

And when I changed the body font size to 10 pt (just to do some comparisons
with plain TeX), I boldly assumed \baselineskip might be 12pt. I looked at
the code for a while, but got lost.

(3) Why is \baselineskip set to this curious amount, rather than 12pt?

Thanks to anyone who can enlighten me.

                                Jim
