Oops, thank you! I could have thought of that myself.
The ean13 version can’t cope with complete numbers but insists on
calculating the checksum itself. That’s a bit cumbersome since I
usually have my complete ISBN in a variable.
There’s a spurious ">" after the EAN.

Oohkay… It’s apparently totally uncommon, at least with ISBNs – the > is
on none of the books near my desk, and no barcode generator I ever tried
had it.
