this also means that such a dvips file will *not* work with pdftex because that 
looks at the FontName when doing inserts, i.e. the CMR12 name is used for 
identifying the font and then lmr is used as replacement (else we end up with 
files where there can be lots of cmr fonts embedded); mostly related to 
graphics using cmr fonts
