\startTEXpage arbitrary tex code \stopTEXpage \startMPpage arbitrary mp code \stopMPpage both commands take the same arguments as \framed, so you can say \setupMPpage[offset=3mm] .. \stopMPpage to get a slightly loose bounding box.
