I fell into this trap because either the Beginner's manual or some other specifically says to run TeXexec instead of ConTeXt -- since (it says) TeXexec will run automatically as many times as needed. The implication is that TeXexec is "smarter" than ConTeXt.

I am brand new to ConTeXt and wanted to learn "the new stuff" and not spend any time with MkII, and I was surprised to see the difference between the two tools.

[Update: the "First Document" tutorial suggests using TeXexec ... and that's probably where I first went wrong.]
