Ntop Group:
Wondering if anyone's currently having stability issues with the precompiled ($99) ntop-win32 executable. After approximately 70 hours of effort on compiling ntop on Win32, I purchased this to evaluate for a client who I know cannot support or fathom the build process on Win32 (thankfully the linux build on a mandrake machine's a bit easier!). Unfortunately I can't seem to support a monitoring session longer than about 8 hours.
Crashes do not seem to be hardware dependent - running 3 different systems, PII 300 BX based system, PIII 600 laptop, and an SIS/Athlon system. All systems are running Win2k, either Server or Workstation. Application typically fails gracefully from console, although I do occassionally get C++ Debug Errors with "DAMAGE: before (null) block ...", and a Dr. Watson dump.
This behavior has been consistent across 2.0, 2.0.99RC2, 2.0.99RC3, and now 2.1.
-This behavior does not seem connected to the webserver portion, as I have encountered some information about stability there with old programs, and consequently used a website mirroring program to pull everything out of Ntop.
-This behavior does not seem to be traffic related, as I am running multiple systems viewing the same traffic at the same time, and the crashes do not happen near each other in time sequence.
To try to further establish behavior, I am currently running 3 consoles sessions on this one laptop, with different command line parameters (wasn't sure this would work).
Typical command line parameters for either executing or running as a service are as follows, with crashes consistent across variations:
ntop /c -a C:/ -i1 -w 3001 -P C:/ -B "host not (192.100.100.236 or 192.100.100.237 or 192.100.100.238 or 192.100.100.239)"
ntop /i -i3 -P C:/
etc.
This is a relatively slow network - peak throughput across the segment I'm looking at is around 500k, while average throughput is likely more int the neighborhood of 75k to 100k. Fair number of hosts, as this is the network edge with http traffic.
I'm respectfully requesting guidance from anyone interested on providing any additional information - I'm a bit lost with the precompiled version on Win32. I have one Watson dump from RC3, but additional error dialog information will have to wait until the next crash (should be an hour or two).
Thanks for any guidance --
JB
