The gdb stuff is precisely what we need to see.  Unfortunately, the failure 
information isn't there. 
It's a gdb artifact - SIGPIPE gets (additionally, erroneously or 
spuriously - you pick it) tripped when you're using gdb. 
You can 
   - perhaps - turn off the signal (help signal, IIRC it's (gdb) handle 
SIGPIPE nostop), 
   - QUICKLY type cont at the (gdb) prompt, 
or - use the --ignore-sigpipe run time option. 
That will continue ntop getting you past the specious SIGPIPE failure to see 
what's really wrong.
