not Cygwin, MinGW
There's a huge difference between the two. Cygwin is a compatibility layer - it has all the gnu/posix et al functions and maps them, via a dll to the windows 'equivalent'. MinGW is a native Windows library for the gnu/posix et al functions. MSys is an add-on to MinGW that has native Windows versions of the essential development tools. -----Burton PS: The update to docs/BUILD-MinGW.txt was commited yesterday. It now starts: Please note that ntop appears to have stopped being compilable under MinGW after 2.1.3. These instructions are retained for historical usage. If somebody wants to attempt to revise them for 2.2.1+, we would love the contribution. If you're going to play with the source, you need to be reading in ntop-dev (and that's where any further discussion of this belongs). -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Behalf Of Meer Michael Sent: Thursday, July 10, 2003 8:55 AM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: RE: [Ntop] MinGW status (was Win libpcap 2.3) > -----Original Message----- > From: Burton M. I will make some attempts with cygwin and when I'am sucessful then I will send you a description how I made it. But unfortunatly I'am not a developer. I've got some knowledge in ksh, bash and perl to make my life as a networkengineer easier. So I'am a classical user of ntop. I think it would be a good idea to delete the different "Makefile.mingw" and the /notp/docs/BUILD-MinGW.txt in the actual Snapshot that other persons will not be confused. Regardless the problems I have Ntop is a wonderful tool. Please go ahead with the development. kind regards Micha _______________________________________________ Ntop-dev mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://listgateway.unipi.it/mailman/listinfo/ntop-dev
