that unfortunately I have not been able to repeat your success with
4.8-p4.

1 cvsup'ed new sources with the standard 'sup file to download the
changes source files for 4.8-p4 (from -p1) in this case.

Note that the release notes (/usr/src/UPDATING) make _no_ mention of
kernel changes related to sockets.

This is for the 4.8 release branch. All entries since 4.8 are an
itemized list of commits to this branch, numbered from the beginning.

The security advisories related to various patches contain information
on how to build/install a minimal set of binaries and start/stop a
minimal number of processes, if possible, for that patch. For those
updates that don't have an advisory, or to be safe, you can do a full
build and install as described in the COMMON ITEMS section.

20030825: p4 FreeBSD-SA-03:11.sendmail
        Sendmail DNS map problem corrected.

20030810: p3 FreeBSD-SA-03:10.iBCS2
iBCS2 system call translator for statfs leaked information.

20030810: p2 FreeBSD-SA-03:09.signal
Repair range-checking errors in signal handling.

20030804: p1 FreeBSD-SA-03:08.realpath
Correct a single byte buffer overflow in realpath(3).

20030403:
        FreeBSD 4.8-RELEASE.

 2.1 make buildworld
 2.2 make buildkernel KERNCONF=mykernel
 2.3 make installkernel KERNCONF=mykernel
 2.4 reboot
 2.5a kill 1
 2.5b make installworld
 2.6 reboot

(strictly there should be mergemaster step before 2.6)

==> this is the standard FreeBSD upgrade procedure as recommended by
the authorative sourc (FreeBSD handbook)

3 reconfigure and remake ntop

same ntop sources as used to confirm Mr Strauss's PR (ie 26/8/2003
with the trace patch)

4 start ntop with results as above.

The problem could be that I have old sources/libraries somewhere; I will
try the same procedure on other machines.

However, in my experience, FreeBSD PRs, like that quoted by Mr Strauss,
tend to be accurate.

continent, a part of the main. If a clod be washed away by the sea,
Europe is the less, as well as if a promontory were, as well as if a
manor of thy friend's or of thine own were. Any man's death diminishes
me, because I am involved in mankind; and therefore never send to know
for whom the bell tolls; it tolls for thee...'
