Dear Sir, I am writing to thank you for your help and say, yes, the warnings from about two instances of ntop were 'fancy startup script' related and were pilot error.
There do not exist any startup problems that I am aware of with ntop 2.2.98 (CVS 2 Jan) under FreeBSD 4.9-RELEASE. Sorry for the noise.
