It's a breakaway down field... all alone except the goalie... shoots...
misses wide of the net...

You forgot the most critical piece of information: WHAT VERSION OF
NTOP???????

If it's 2.2 or even 2.2c, well, there are problems we've fixed in the
cvs
(development) version. Some of which could be memory leaks.

Or it could just be lots and lots of hosts. You also neglected to tell
us ANYTHING about the network environment.

Please read the articles on this in docs/FAQ. "Q. Why does ntop use so
much memory ?"

And search the back traffic on the list - we've done a number of
go-arounds on this...

The graphs work fine for me. I'm more worried about this message

Thu Feb 12 17:53:31 2004 Unable to accept HTTP(S) request (errno=3D0:
Success)

Is this repeatable or a single occurrence? If the answer is that this
is a
single occurrence, then drop it - the data to troubleshoot it just
doesn't
exist.

If it's repeatable, FIRST check for a host process that's kicking the
interface out of promiscuous mode. Many distros (and I don't see which
one
you are using...) have them. You probably should check the full systems
log
around the time of that message and look for cron jobs that ran and/or
log
messages about 'device left promiscuous mode' or some such.

I'm hoping it's a promiscuous interface reset... otherwise, it could be
ANYTHING, so you'll have to run under gdb and hope to catch it.
Unfortunately, the very act of running under gdb often changes things.

The reason I suspect the interface reset is because of the discrepancy
between

> Merged packet counts:
> Received: 462922124

which is myGlobals.device[].receivedPkts.value, and

> Received (pcap): 2556097

which is from pcap_stats() call

Unless you've got a filter expression (-B, which you don't) they are
usually
pretty close, e.g.:

Packets
Received: 33891
Processed: 33891 (immediately)
...
Network:
Merged packet counts:
     Received: 33891
     Ethernet: 33891

Also interesting is that the log message is about 53-54m into the run,
so if
ntop stopped recording data at that point, eventually it would think it
has
enough points to create the 2nd graph (the test for the <img> tag in
report.c around 4126, but no data for it (see graph.c), so it would be a
blank graph...
