If you downloaded the cvs, you get the cvs - which is 3.2 + development.
You can try pulling a specific version via the cvs tags, but that doesn't
always work. You can download the .tgz source from SourceForge (which s/b
what is in the .src.rpm you have).

As for RH7.3, sorry, but we don't test under it. RH9 introduced NPTL
(Google for it). For a while, we effectively tested both NPTL and PTHREADS
because other distros didn't move, but that's no longer true - all the
current distros are NPTL. So while 'POSIX threads are POSIX threads',
there's no guarantee that ntop will work with PTHREADS anymore.

Subject: [Ntop-dev] NTOP cvs dev tree / latest release?

Hi all,

Hope I'm not simply generating noise but, I am currently having network
problems with on one of my rh73 server and I am trying to get ntop 3.2
working on it to help me out figure what is happenning.

Seems that v3.2 (src.rpm downloaded from sourceforge) fails to start-up
properly (sometimes I get a database error, somethimes I can't connect to
the web interface and it nevers starts monitoring).

I tough there would be either a 3.2.x containing bug fixes or a way to give
a try at the latest cvs dev tree to see if it might fix some of the issue I
have.

So I started by the wiki which made me point to the FAQ (although there is
not link to it)... I finally got my hand on a version of the FAQ that
said:

Q6. The docs at ntop.org say ...

A. Stop right there. They're out of date (notice, for example, the man page
is July 2002?).

The only current stuff is this FAQ (which gets out of date quickly) the
other files in the distribution and the mailing lists.

You can access the updated FAQ from docs/FAQ in the cvs or from your ntop
instance (click on the (?) icon in the "About" menu and read down
1/2 a page or so.

....

So I went on the download section of the web site and download the cvs
version... And I then read the FAQ:

Q. Where do I get the source?
A. SourceForge -- http://sourceforge.net/projects/ntop/

There is also a cvs (current development) maintained at cvs.ntop.org.
(instructions are on the download page of www.ntop.org)

Since I downloaded the source from CVS using the explanation of the download
section... Am I having v3.2 of the source or the current dev snapshot?

Using TkCVS it seemed to me that either the CVS snapshot I have is a
v3.2-rc2 since I have not found any 3.2 tag ?

Q1: How can I know which version I downloaded?
Q2: If the version I have is the the dev snapshot... How can I download it?

Thnx!

- vin
