Hello,

I've been running PF_RING for several months for an application to take packet
captures at high speed and now I would like to run Snort IDS in the same server.

I tried to compile snort from source but got the following error:

"checking for pfring_open in -lpcap... no

   ERROR! Libpcap library/headers (libpcap.a (or .so)/pcap.h)
not found, go get it from http://www.tcpdump.org
or use the --with-libpcap-* options, if you have it installed
in unusual place. Also check if your libpcap depends on another
shared library that may be installed in an unusual place"

I read on previous posts that PF_RING_DAQ module is needed, but I am not sure
on the steps (PF_RING/userland/snort/pfring-daq-module# README.1st states that
snort itself is a prerrequisite for installing DAQ module...).

Can someone summarize the steps to install an Snort IDS with PF_RING?

Would it affect the current (working) PF_RING installation?

Thanks!
Fernando
